Nature
Step outside and you’re immersed in some of Galicia’s most enchanting landscapes. We’re on the doorstep of the ancient Atlantic forest of Fragas do Eume, a protected natural park known for its dense woodlands of sweet chestnut, roble oak, and silver birch. The forest floor bursts into life with magical ferns, wild narcissus, primroses, and a dazzling variety of seasonal wildflowers.
There are multiple walking and biking routes that wind through these ancient trees, offering both peaceful strolls and more adventurous trails.
Our home looks out over heather and gorse (toxo) moorlands, where wildlife is part of the daily rhythm. Wild boar, roe deer, foxes, badgers, and the elusive gineta (Iberian wildcat) all roam these hills. You might spot birds of prey circling above, or catch glimpses of adders, praying mantises, and curious crickets among the undergrowth. In autumn, the woods come alive with fungi in all shapes and sizes.
Whether you’re here to hike, observe wildlife, or simply soak in the quiet, this landscape offers a deep connection to nature in every season.
About us
We moved to Galicia for a change of pace and to spend more time with our growing children. Captivated by the wild beauty, rich culture, and slower rhythms of life here, we searched high and low for the perfect place—and finally found it in this corner of northern Spain.
Since settling in, we’ve been gradually restoring our home, creating a space that’s rooted in nature and community. Along the way, we’ve welcomed many wonderful Workaway volunteers who’ve helped with everything from eucalyptus clearance and chicken coop construction to maintaining the house, gardens, and animals. We've also had the pleasure of hosting an artist residency in collaboration with local collective Rural-C, and international partners from Portugal and Greece.
Now, we’re opening our doors for others to discover the magic of this place for themselves.
The rental accommodation has its own front and rear entrance, private garden, and is adjoining our family home, where we live with our friendly dogs, chickens, cat—and occasionally, our horse who helps us keep the grass in check. We're here if you need anything, but we’ll give you all the space you need to relax and enjoy your stay in peace
artists workshops
Building on the success of our very first artist residency in 2024, we're excited to open up new opportunities for creative exploration at our home in Galicia.
Our resident sculptor, Robin Dobson, is a skilled metalworker/sculptor whose striking creations can be found throughout the property—including our bespoke barbecue firepits, perfect for gathering around with friends and family on warm evenings.
We’re developing a programme of forging and metalworking workshops, ranging from hands-on introductory sessions to more in-depth experiences. In time, we’ll also collaborate with other local artisans to offer a diverse calendar of creative workshops—from sculpture and ceramics to natural dyes and woodworking.
